inspirational quotes about success

So many times we expect success to just come our way.

Sometimes we feel like we should be given success automatically from the hard work we’ve put into our cause.

The fact is that the easiest way to find success is to take charge of your goal by creating a plan that can help you win.

If you’re playing it safe, there’s a good chance success will remain just out of reach.

#2.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

– Thomas Jefferson

Have you ever noticed that some people always seem to come out on top?

It isn’t because they have luck on their side.

It’s because they have a mental attitude that wills them toward success.

#3.

If you wish success in life, make perseverance your bosom friend, experience your wise counselor, caution your elder brother, and hope your guardian genius.

– Joseph Addison

There is the odd success story that comes out of the blue and happens instantly.

For the most part, however, reaching success is like climbing up a long set of stairs.

It’s tough to jump more than 2-3 steps at a time, even when you’re in a hurry.

You must persevere to make to the top.

You might get tired and you might even need to take a rest from time to time, but you keep on moving.

inspirational motivational quotes

Blame. It’s around us every day, seemingly all day.

The fact is that it is easier to blame others for our lack of success than it is to admit that we couldn’t adjust to changing circumstances.

There are some things that are outside of our control.

It may rain today. It may be windy today. That doesn’t mean you stop going outside. It just means you put on a coat and bring your umbrella.

#5.

The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting.

– Walt Disney

We don’t call it “quitting” or “giving up.”

We say that we’re tired. We decide that there are more important things that we could be doing.

Our favorite TV show might be on or there are video games to play.

Success often comes from an ability to stick with a task to see it through to its completion.

We use excuses far too often to justify quitting and that keeps many from achieving the success that they were destined to have.

#6.

Success is most often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable.

– Coco Chanel

Fear can hold us back from many things.

A fear of commitment, for example, can hold us back from experiencing the greatest love of our lives.

A fear of success can keep us in a world where failure is our only option.

There is always a risk involved when we take a step forward on our journey toward success.

Instead of focusing on that fear, look to the end of your journey.

Focus on the success that’s awaiting you.

#7.

good inspirational quotes

We all have the will to win. It’s part of our very soul.

The experiences of life can drive that desire to win downward and make it seem like it is no longer there, but that is a lie.

You can win. You can succeed. You can reach your full potential.

You just have to dig down deep sometimes to find where that will to win has been buried so it can get to work.

#8.

Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.

– Booker T. Washington

So often we define success by the outcomes we’re able to receive from our efforts.

That isn’t really where success can be found.

Our personal growth will always be our greatest success story and that comes when we’re able to overcome the roadblocks that come our way during the journey we take.

Outcomes are fleeting, but personal growth stays with us for the rest of our lives.

#9.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

– Mark Twain

It’s easy to get caught up in the moment.

There are bills to pay. School lunches to pack for the kids. The car might need to get fixed. Your boss might give you a tight deadline and put tons of pressure on you to deliver.

When we look back on our lives, these are not the moments we remember.

It is the moments where we spent time with our families, took a risk that paid off, or took that vacation to a place you’d never been before.

If you have the chance to explore, take it.

If you can chase your dreams as you’re exploring, then you’ve got the best of both worlds at your fingertips.

Grab hold and never let go.

#10.

inspirational leadership quotes

Many people will take this quote and say that you’ve got to dress the part.

If you want to be a success, then you’ve got to put on the clothes that successful people wear.

Let’s look at this a different way.

If you start a journey and expect it to fail, then there’s a good chance that your expectations will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You cannot experience success if you’re always expecting failure.

The best way to find success is to expect that you’ll find it one day.

#11.

Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.

– Les Brown

We all make mistakes.

When mistakes happen, there are one of two things that happen: we either take responsibility for what happened and learn from it or we find an excuse.

To find success, we must accept responsibility for our mistakes. Humans are fallible creatures.Pretending we are perfect is pointless.

What we can do is take each experience, glean knowledge from what happened, and then apply that knowledge to future situations so we can be closer to our success than ever before.

#12.

inspirational quotes for students

Success isn’t going to happen if we isolate after a failure occurs.

A dark room of loneliness can feel comforting for awhile, but in the end we all tend to be our own harshest critics.

People don’t expect a 100% success rate.

They do, however, expect you to get back on your horse and try again.

#13.

There is only one success – to be able to spend your life in your own way.

– Christopher Morley

Many people work the 9-5 grind, come home to spend a couple of hours with their family, and live for the weekend.

That makes life seem like it sails on by and your loved ones become ships that simply pass by you in the night.

Life doesn’t have to be that way.

You can be in control of the way you spend your time.

When you can find that control and then make as many moments matter as possible, then you will have found the ultimate success that life has to offer.

#14.

I do not know the word ‘quit.’ Either I never did, or I have abolished it.

Susan Butcher

You’ll never cross the finish line if you decide to quit.

It can be difficult to reach some dreams or find some successes, but the reward at the end of the race is always worth the effort it takes.

Success sometimes requires us to feel uncomfortable in order for us to feel the joy at the end of the journey.

#15.

To be successful, you have to have your heart in your business, and your business in your heart.

– Sr. Thomas Watson

Success might be a choice, but it is a choice that is easier to make when you have a passion for what it is you are doing.

Anyone can earn a paycheck working in a job that they hate.

You don’t have to be that person.

Follow your passion and your heart will lead you toward the success that you want to have.

#16.

christian inspirational quotes

There’s nothing wrong with admiring people.

Some have idols that they pattern their lives after and have found great success in doing so.

You can design your own life plan based on the successful life plans of others.

What you cannot do is rely on someone else to design your life plan.

If you’re relying on others to navigate you toward your expectation of success, you will invariably be disappointed by what you find at the end of your journey.

#17.

motivational and inspirational quotes

Because we define success off of an ultimate outcome, we often miss the perfect moments that exist around each of us every day.

Success can be making sure your neighbor who just got fired has enough food to feed their family for a week.

It can be in the adoption of a stray dog.

It can be giving a ride to someone so they can get to work on time.

Instead of having tunnel-vision on one end goal, keep your eyes open for a chance to do something.

The joy of a journey isn’t in how fast you get to the end of it.

It is in what you are able to experience along the way.

#18.

FEAR has two meanings: ‘Forget everything and run’ or ‘Face everything and rise.’ The choice is yours.

– Zig Ziglar

Fear can be motivating, but it can also be debilitating.

We often let it be the latter instead of the former and then blame fear for our inability to find success.

You are in control of the energy that fear can provide you.

Choose to stand up in spite of fear and you will give yourself the chance to experience something amazing.

If you choose to run away, then you lose that opportunity to find success.

#19.

If you want to make a permanent change, stop focusing on the size of your problems and start focusing on the size of you!

T. Harv Eker

You have the power to be the person you want to be.

Some problems might seem overwhelming at first, but that’s because you’re looking at the outcome instead of looking for what you can do at this very moment.

We won’t solve global hunger by the end of the working day, but we can plant seeds so that more food can grow.

Take a step forward each day and the size of the problem will ever be as big as you initially thought it was.

#20.

Success is a state of mind. If you want success, start thinking of yourself as a success.

– Joyce Brothers

If you choose to experience success, you are not guaranteeing that it will come your way.

You are guaranteeing yourself a fair shot at it.

We often get these two perspectives confused with each other, so when success doesn’t come, there is a lack of confidence and self-esteem sure to follow.

Nothing in life is guaranteed – except, as the famous saying goes, death and taxes.

Take a shot and see what happens.

#21.

funny inspirational quotes

Playing it safe will never help you find the maximum level of success you were meant to achieve.

Sometimes the most difficult decisions we make aren’t to start a journey toward success, but to keep going when there is so much that is unknown in front of us.

#22.

If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.

– Henry Ford

No one likes it when change comes along.

Change forces us out of our comfort zones.

It requires us to think outside the box.

It means we must do something that we haven’t done before in order to achieve a different result.

If you feel like you’re not achieving success, then it’s time to do something different.

Otherwise you’re always going to receive the same results that are leaving you with disappointment.

#23.

success quotes

Choices. When we make a choice, something happens.

This is where success is born.

Everyone has challenging circumstances that can try to hold them back.

These are chains that must be cast off.

What happened in your life could be tragic, painful, and leave you hanging by a thread sometimes, but those circumstances don’t have to be in control.

You make the choices. You stay in control. When you do that, you really can do anything.

#24.

hard work success quotes

The world would be a very different place if everyone gave up when they faced adversity or experienced failure.

Failure is simply an experience that can be used to find an even higher level of success if we’re willing to pay attention to the lessons that are being offered to us.

Stephen King received hundreds of rejection letters when he first got started writing.

There are numerous stories like this.

Your story can join these others if you’re willing to keep moving forward.

#25.

hard work success quotes

People don’t let you have success.

You choose to move toward it.

There will be people who try to drag you down and keep you from that success for one simple reason: misery loves company.

These others have already given up and your perseverance makes them feel guilty or experience regret.

Instead of taking responsibility for their choices, they try to prevent you from reaching success because that way they feel like the mirror’s reflection won’t judge them as harshly.

Don’t let people stop you from the success that you know you can reach.

Keep moving forward and take it.

#26.

The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.

– Bruce Lee

We’re all born with unique talents and skills that lead us toward success.

We often judge ourselves by the best people in our industry or those who share our passion and have already experienced success, but that is an inaccurate comparison.

We are all just average people who are all on our own journey.

It is the focus we have in keeping on that journey that will eventually separate us from everyone else.

#27.

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.

– Jim Rohn

We all have good days and we all have bad days.

There’s no reason why you can’t take a day off to enjoy the fruits of your labor, but it is also important to remember that any time you take off is the first day of a new habit.

Habits are a funny thing.

You can do the same thing for 7 weeks straight, but then choose to do something else and be on Day #1 of a brand new habit.

Motivation will keep you true to your journey.

Habits will keep your feet moving forward.

#28.

Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Wishing is not enough; we must do.

– Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Knowledge is just the cornerstone of a foundation of success.

We must continue building upward from this cornerstone through our actions if we’re going to be able to reach the goals we have in mind.

We can imagine success and we can wish for it, but eventually we must work to achieve it.

Good intentions never built anything.

Only your hard work is going to bring you to a successful outcome.

#29.

I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure, which is: Try to please everybody.

– Herbert Bayard Swope

If you’re working for others, then you’re working for their success instead of your own.

There isn’t anything wrong in doing that from time to time, but it cannot be the focus of your efforts every day.

If you want success, you must be working to achieve what you want.

If you’re trying to please everyone else, then they’re just going to take advantage of you and leave you behind when your work drives them forward on their journey toward success.

It can be difficult sometimes when others are critical of what you do, but stay focused on you and you’ll be OK at the end of the day.

#30.

Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.

Henry David Thoreau

When you’re looking for success, it changes your focus.

Instead of looking at the fine details that can help you move forward on your journey, you begin looking toward the end result.

It is rare that instant success will find you and even if it does, that success tends to be fleeting because it is built on nothing.

Be busy with the details of your plans and you’ll have a great chance to make your own success.

#31.

I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.

– Thomas Edison

This is about perspective.

If your ideas aren’t well received, you can look at it in one of two ways: that’s either one step toward your eventual success or one more person who has decided that you’re a failure.

The first perspective will drive you forward to the next innovation.

The second will drive you toward the decision to give up and quit for good.

#32.

business success quotes

The formula for success is simple: hard work + perseverance = a chance at success.

The Chicago Bulls had one of the best professional basketball seasons ever in 1995-1996 when they won 72 games.

They also lost 10 games in the regular season.

Following the formula for success won’t guarantee a win every time, but it does guarantee you a chance at a win.

#33.

A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.

Bob Dylan

You can live for yourself and the ones you love or you can live for someone else.

It really is that simple and it boils down to your personal perspective.

You can work the 9-5 grind with success if your goal is to provide your family with a home, food, and some of the things they want in life and be successful.

You can also be self-employed, decide to watch soap operas all day, and then struggle to pay your rent or mortgage at the end of the month.

Follow your dreams and you really can do anything.

#34.

The #1 reason people fail in life is because they listen to their friends, family, and neighbors.

Napoleon Hill

You need advice to find success.

No one has ever reached the end of their journey toward success without some help along the way.

The people you choose to have as your mentors, however, will either make your journey easier or more difficult depending on what their perspectives happen to be.

Sometimes your family might tell you to quit or change what you do for the best of reasons, but quitting is still you giving up on a chance to chase your dream.

#35.

You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.

– Margaret Thatcher

You can win a battle, but still lose a war.

You can also lose a battle, but still win a war.

It all boils down to your willingness to keep going.

If you’re willing to see your journey to its natural conclusion, then you’re giving yourself a chance to find the success that you’ve always wanted to have.

#36.

Every failure we have just takes us closer to the success that we want.

It can be tempting sometimes to give up when you fail on a consistent basis.

This is where your enthusiastic attitude comes into play.

If you’re passionate about what you do and have confidence that you’ll be successful one day, then eventually the path from failure to failure will lead to a resounding success.

#37.

You might think you’re on top of the world.

That everything is going your way and that you’ve got it all figured out.

The only problem is that the opposite may be closer to the truth.

Sometimes we need to learn things the hard way.

A good fall can open our eyes to what we’ve blinded ourselves from seeing.

This allows us to fix mistakes, make better choices, and achieve real success.

#38.

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.

Napoleon Hill

You can achieve whatever dream you may have.

Dreams are something we must believe in, but we must also be willing to work for them.

This combination of belief and sweat can take us to any place we want to go.

#39.

If you hang out with chickens, you’re going to cluck and if you hang out with eagles, you’re going to fly.

Steve Maraboli

Now to be fair, there are some chickens which can fly as well. Maybe not very well, but they can do it.

Eagles – they soar at great heights. The point here is about where you set the bar of expectations for yourself.

Are you satisfied with being the chicken that might be able to fly into a tree?

Or do you want to be the eagle, soaring at the top of the world?

You’ll only be what you think you can be.

#40.

Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs.

Farrah Gray

You go to work every day and hate it.

You come home every night feeling exhausted. Sound familiar?

If it does, it’s because you’re expending all of your energy to build the dreams of someone else – but are thinking that you’re building your own dream.

Focus on what you want to get out of life. Reach for your dreams.

You’ll find that the frustration, resentment, and exhaustion will begin to fade away.

#41.

There are people who will purposely drag you down.

They will close doors on you. They will try to build themselves up on top of your hard work.

You could try to do the same in return, but why bother?

Instead of tearing others down, keep working to build yourself up.

That’s the best way to get even with those that try to hold you back on purpose.

#42.

If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.

Milton Berle

There are some people who seem to be blessed in everything they do.

No matter what, they always seem to have new opportunities.

Why is that?

Because they’ve built doors for themselves.

They aren’t waiting for an opportunity to come to them.

They’re making their own opportunities and you can do the same thing.

#43.

success quotes

Every circumstance that life throws our way is a chance to learn something new.

If you’re going through a difficult time right now, then change the perspective.

You’re being prepared to be able to do something fantastic in the near future.

Difficult times give us endurance to run the race of life to the best of our ability.

#44.

Be the best you can be.

Keep practicing.

Keep learning.

Maybe you’ll win one day.

If you’re not willing to try, then you’ll never succeed.

You’ll also have to keep going in order to win.

If you quit, then someone else is going to win.

#45.

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Mark Twain

Toxic people will drag you down.

They will try to make you feel miserable because they already feel miserable.

You don’t need that in your life.

Removing toxic people can be difficult when they are your family or your close friends, but sometimes it needs to be done so that you can chase your dreams.

#46.

If you want to experience success, then you’ve got to work for it.

Expecting it to just fall in your lap one day may have you sitting and waiting for a lifetime to have it arrive.

Reach for your goals. Get up every day with a purpose in mind. Keep moving forward.

Maybe you’ll go backwards some days, but even if you take 2 steps backward, 3 steps forward still gives you forward progress.

It’s not good luck or bad luck – it’s your luck.

#47.

We cannot achieve more in life than what we believe in our heart of hearts we deserve to have.

James R. Ball

Sometimes the only thing holding us back is the expectations we’ve set for ourselves.

Sometimes we feel like we don’t deserve good things.

Maybe there was a terrible mistake in your past.

Or maybe you just feel like you’re not good enough.

Your heart is in charge of making the final decisions every day.

If this is happening to you, then find out what is holding you back.

Resolve the situation. Right any wrongs that might be affecting you.

This way you can feel more deserving of the dreams you’re chasing.

#48.

You are always in control.

You can decide to keep striving for a dream.

You are the one who decides to keep pushing forward. It’s all up to you.

Even when people might try to hold you back, you’re the one who can decide to keep going when everyone else decides to give up.

#49.

zig ziglar

It’s difficult to achieve success if you are unable to plan for it.

Success doesn’t just happen. There are steps that must be taken along the way that all lead to the final goal.

If you don’t see yourself being able to take this journey, then the natural reaction is to not even bother trying in the first place.

Take a dream you wish to pursue. Make goals that you can achieve that will help you incrementally achieve that dream.

When you can achieve a goal, you’ll feel successful.

That’s how you can begin to see yourself as a winner, even if you don’t feel that way right now.

#50.

It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen.

– Scott Belsky

Ideas are good to have.

Without an idea, we have no real dreams to pursue.

The idea, however, is not as important as the steps taken to achieve that idea.

We must be willing to work for what we want and then not give up until we reach our definition of success.

Then, once successful, we take a new idea and work hard to achieve it.

And then the process keeps repeating itself.

This is how successful people stay successful.

#51.

tonny robbins

Inspirational quotes can help us all dig deep within ourselves to find strength.

Yet far too often, a quote or blog post or conversation with a friend turns into a short-term emotional reaction instead of inspiring action.

You must take what you’ve learned from a quote, post, or conversation and apply it. Test it. Experiment with what you can achieve.

This is how you find out exactly what it is that you have the capabilities of doing.

#52.

danielle laporte

If dreams were easy to achieve, then we’d all be astronauts, professional athletes, firemen and women, or doctors – common dreams for children growing up.

But dreams are not easy to achieve.

It takes time, hard work, and patience.

There will be difficult moments.

There will be times when it feels like a dream will never be achieved.

These aches are normal. They are like growing pains.

It hurts now, but eventually you’ll grow and become stronger because of it.

Compared to the ache of a dream never achieved, the ache of a difficult moment is much easier to handle.

#53.

You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.

– JOHN C MAXWELL

The things we make a priority in our lives become something that we strive for on a daily basis.

If we make success a high priority, then our routines will reflect this desire.

We will structure our days around our ability to reach out toward the goals we have set for ourselves.

The opposite is also true. If success isn’t a priority, then our routines will be a reflection of that attitude.

You’ll actually do things every day that will prevent success because you don’t care about it.

So if you want to chase a dream, make it a top priority. You’ll make time for it.

#54.

unknown

It’d be nice to kick back in a comfortable chair, a glass of lemonade on the table next to you, and watch a day pass by confident in knowing that your dream is about to come true.

In reality, to achieve a dream, you must roll up your sleeves, stick your hands in the dirt, and work harder than you’ve ever worked before.

You must want it to achieve it.

Without that work, it is very rare that a dream will actually come true.

#55.

nelson mandela

There are two ways we make choices every day. The first and most common method is the path of fear.

We choose what to do or what dreams to pursue because we are afraid of something.

The dream of being a professional athlete is abandoned for fear of not earning enough money.

The dream of being a doctor is abandoned because of a fear of poor grades.

We must set aside these fears and make choices based off of hope.

The hope of being the best at what you do.

The hope of having good grades through long nights of studying.

Fear creates a negative. Hope creates a positive.

So when we make choices because of fear, the outcome is almost always negative in relation to the dreams we wish to achieve because it is inherently negative as an emotion.

Fear makes us run away. Hope allows us to run forward. So run forward and chase that dream.

Let’s talk about the computer or mobile device you’re using to read this right now.

How many apps do you have up right now?

How many tabs are open in your browser window?

Each app and tab is a potential distraction from what you are doing.

When your email notification rings, do you run to check the message?

If your phone says you have a text, do you check it immediately?

Have you setup Facebook notifications? Twitter lists? Other social media notifications?

We are busier than ever today because of these distractions, but that doesn’t mean we are productive.

Focus on accomplishing one task at a time.

Be proactive about stopping distractions.

Check your email once or twice per day instead of every 5 minutes.

Silence your phone to respond to texts every couple of hours.

Allow yourself the privilege of completing your to-do list every day and this will increase your chances to be successful.

#57.

Smart people learn from everything and everyone. Average people from their experiences. Stupid people already have all the answers.

– Socrates

People who think they know everything already have already lost the chance to be successful.

They probably think they’re already successful.

Experiences are important. They help to define who we are and the learning lessons obtained can lead us toward success.

It’s just one part of the equation.

Success occurs most frequently when we look at every moment as an opportunity.

The goal is to be a little bit better today than yesterday. Tomorrow we’ll be a little bit better than today.

To do that, we must seek out learning opportunities when they present themselves.

Here’s the best part.

Every conversation, experience at work, conversation at home, and even moments watching TV can become a learning opportunity.

Watch for them and you’ll see just how many are available to you every day.

#58.

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it Henry Ford

Sometimes the things that seem most challenging are actually moments where we can find our greatest successes.

There are always days when the world won’t seem to go your way.

Instead of letting stress and negativity fester so you shut down, look for the positive things around you.

Every moment has perfection to it.

#59.

The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.

– Amelia Earhart

Ideas and dreams can be amazing, but they won’t turn into a reality unless you’re willing to make a decision.

Decisions entail risk.

You might fail, but if you work hard and chase your ideas and dreams with everything you had, then you can create the reality you want.

Once you get the first step out of the way, the decision to act, every future step becomes a little easier to make.

#60.

John D. Rockefeller Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great

There is a danger in being comfortable.

It keeps you in a zone of contentment.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but there is one thing that happens when contentment is around.

You stop looking for future opportunities because you feel satisfied.

To be great, you must never be fully satisfied, even during the best of times.

#61.

The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win.

– Roger Bannister

Life is a series of mountains and valleys.

At the summits of life’s mountains, there is a tremendous view and a feeling of accomplishment.

The work that happens to make it up to those summits happens down in the valleys of life.

So push yourself hard during times that seem tough.

You’ll give yourself the stamina to reach the tallest peaks that life has to offer.

#62.

Robert H. Schuller Tough times never last, but tough people do

There will be good times and there will be bad times.

These cycles always happen.

There are two ways to approach these cycles: to embrace them or to avoid them.

Tough times may not always be pleasant, but they will refine your character.

They make you dig deep into yourself to see what you’re really made of on the inside.

When you discover this part of yourself, it never goes away.

That way, when the good times come back, you’re ready to push forward even faster than before.

#63.

Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man. But sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks he can.

– Vince Lombardi

Failure happens before many ideas, dreams, or projects ever get started.

Our visions of a result become a self-fulfilling prophesy.

If you think you’ll succeed, then you’ll give yourself a chance to find success.

If you think you’ll fail, then you will fail… and in a spectacular way.

So envision success. This will help you find the paths that lead toward it.

#64.

Business is like riding a bicycle. Either you keep moving or you fall down.

 – Frank Lloyd Wright

You must keep innovating when looking at your career.

People evolve. Times change. What worked last year will probably not work this year.

Instead of staying comfortable, look outside of the box. Innovate. Dream big.

This is how you can keep moving forward.

Without processes in place to encourage this, you’ll find fewer opportunities in future days.

#65.

Ray Kroc If you’re not a risk taker, you should get the hell out of business

In order for a reward to appear, a risk must be taken. A decision must be made.

This means there will be the potential for failure.

You cannot be scared of failure in businesses because that fear will hold you back.

Innovation happens when there is courage to keep moving forward with an idea, even though it may not work.

For those who are unwilling to embrace this fear or make a decision, the business world will eventually cast you aside and leave you behind.

#66.

Thomas Edison Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like hard work

The fact is most people today are afraid of hard work.

That’s why one of the most popular searches every year tends to be some variation of “How can I make money for free?”

There is a certain satisfaction in completing a hard day of work.

You can get used to the efforts you put in over time.

It’s just that first step that catches people.

So instead of looking at the whole journey and feeling overwhelmed because of the distance, look at that first step instead.

You can take one step. Then take another.

#67.

Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.

 – Bill Bradley

It’s easy to say that you want to run your own business. Be your own boss. Earn that degree.

In order to achieve that success, you must work toward your goal.

You must keep working at it, even when times get tough, or else you’ll be stepping off of the path to success.

#68.

Napoleon Hill The starting point of all achievement is desire

When you pursue something you’re passionate about, the efforts you put into your goal do not seem like work.

This is why the most successful careers are built not on the desire to earn a paycheck, but the desire to pursue a passion.

If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut, then think about what you’re truly passionate about and then begin to build goals and dreams around what you love.

#69.

If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.

 – Milton Berle

Feel like you’re in a dead end job?

Do you feel like everyone else is getting the opportunities you deserve?

A harsh reality in life is that no one has to give anyone else a single opportunity.

It is up to each of us to make our own chances for success.

So if you feel like things aren’t working out for you in this chapter of life, it’s time to start a new chapter.

That way you can build your own door that leads to opportunity.

#70.

Mark Twain To succeed in life, you need two things Ignorance and Confidence

Ignorance can mean many things.

It can mean a lack of intelligence.

It can mean a lack of awareness.

It can even mean a purposeful blindness to facts.

When looking at how success can come about, ignorance is a benefit because we do not know what the consequences of failure will be.

This allows you to have no limitations as you pursue an idea or a dream because you’ve set fear aside.

When paired with confidence in yourself, the chances for success can be very great.

#71.

You cannot make progress without making decisions.

 – Jim Rohn

Not making a decision is actually a decision – and it is one that usually isn’t very good.

The decision to not act means you’re standing still on the path to success.

You must decide to keep taking steps forward.

Those decisions aren’t always easy to make.

Some decisions require sacrifice.

There are no guarantees that you’ll reach the end of your journey either, but if you give up or you stop moving, you will guarantee one thing: you’ll never make it to the end of the path.

#72.

Swami Sivananda Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret of success

Never discount the importance of who you are.

You are a unique being with special talents, gifts, ideas, and dreams.

When you funnel the energy of your uniqueness into everything you do, then the world becomes a better place.

Even if you’re doing something mundane, like washing dishes or mowing the lawn, you’ll find that there is more joy to experience in the moments of life.

That joy is contagious and will spread to all those who see you putting your heart, mind, and soul into even the smallest things that you do.

#73.

No one lives long enough to learn everything they need to learn starting from scratch. To be successful, we absolutely, positively have to find people who have already paid the price to learn the things that we need to learn to achieve our goals.

 – Brian Tracy

We must always keep learning in order to keep growing.

We must also find companions on our journey to success that have already walked along the path that we are currently walking.

Those mentors know what challenges are waiting in future days and can help us prepare for them.

This makes the journey much easier than if the path toward success is walked on one’s own.

#74.

Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.

 – Henry Ford

There are roadblocks on the journey toward success that will always come up.

They only become an issue if you focus solely on the roadblock instead of what is waiting for you at the end of your journey.

So instead of becoming fearful about the obstacle that is in your way, seek out a detour.

Find a new way to get to your goal.

It might take you a little longer to reach your destination, but you’ll still be moving forward.

#75.

Tom Ziglar Success is the fruit of good habits

We are creatures of routine.

Our routines help us to get to work on time, maintain our health, and spend time with our families.

When these routines are good, then we gain the chance to obtain good results.

If our routines are unhealthy, then our results will be a very different story.

The only problem is that good results need time to bear fruit.

Some fruit matures faster than others.

In nature, a standard fruit tree can take up to 8 years to produce their first fruit. So be patient.

Good habits will eventually help you to find success.

#76.

You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward.

It is good to have a plan to find success.

What you don’t need to have is a plan to take your next step forward toward that success.

It is okay to be uncertain about some details in your forward movement.

If you wait to have everything figured out first, you may find that the next step is one that you will never take.

#77.

Success is the sum of small efforts – repeated day in and day out Robert Collier

The path toward success is much like a steep staircase and you’re standing at the bottom of it.

Can you jump from the bottom of a staircase to the very top of it in one movement? Probably not.

Yet if you take one small step at a time, always moving forward, you’ll find yourself at the top of the stairs in no time at all.

Instead of trying to figure out a way to jump all of the stairs at once, have the courage to take one small step at a time.

#78.

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.

 – Swami Vivekananda

Pursue the one idea that you are passionate about.

This does not mean you won’t have any other ideas.

It just means you need to pursue the most important idea that you have.

It’s the dream that you think about every day.

It’s the one thing you feel like life would be incomplete without.

When you dwell on this idea on a daily basis and ignore the other ideas that can take you off of the path toward success, it becomes much easier to keep moving forward.

#79.

Norman Vincent Peale People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they can do things. When they believe in themselves, they have the first secret of success

Failure can make anyone doubt themselves.

It is hard to pick yourself up off the ground and start over.

Sometimes the effort seems meaningless.

Yet the action of picking yourself up is a decision to start pursuing success once again.

Every small success you experience will rebuild your confidence.

In that confidence, you will find the secret to taking the first steps that must be taken toward a dream, idea, or goal.

#80.

If you work just for money, you’ll never make it, but if you love what you’re doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours.

 – Ray Kroc

Earning a paycheck is important, but it cannot be the only thing that defines you.

You can earn a fair living when your focus is on money, but it is a living that is without a deeper meaning.

Pursue ideas that you love.

Your passion will automatically put your clients first.

It is a contagious passion that will attract more people to you, which means over time, success can be yours.

#81.

Robin S. Sharma As you move outside of your comfort zone, what was once the unknown and frightening becomes your new normal

A funny thing happens when you have the courage to step outside of your comfort zone: you become comfortable.

Every step into the unknown is filled with uncertainty, but there are great rewards waiting in that final frontier.

So if things seem stagnant and unfulfilling right now in life, take a step forward into the frightening unknown.

You might discover something amazing is there, waiting for you.

#82.

Seth Godin

You could wait for perfection to come along.

It might one day.

That perfection might complete your journey.

While you’re waiting, however, many others are moving forward toward the finish line.

Maybe they’ll get there.

Maybe they won’t.

At least they had the courage to take the first step.

#83.

The consequences of a bad decision are rarely worse than the consequences of indecision.

– Steli Efti

Every decision brings some level of risk with it.

If you make a bad decision, at least you have information that can be used to avoid repeating that decision again in the future.

If you’re stuck in a world of indecision, then you won’t even get that kind of feedback.

#84.

Jim Rohn

Success is not a gift.

It must be earned.

Goals provide the structure which allows us to earn it.

By staying disciplined in our actions, we can implement the plans that will lead us to success.

#85.

Muhammad Ali

Life expects instant gratification, but reality doesn’t operate that way.

If you want to be the very best at what you do, then you must practice your skills.

Refine your talent.

Work hard every day.

You must suffer.

Once you reach the end of your journey and have met your goals, you will consider yourself to be a champion – and so will those who came along for the ride.

#86.

You’re not going to succeed at stuff you don’t want to do.

– Mark Bittman

We reach the levels of success that we’re willing to allow ourselves to reach.

If you’re only working to earn a paycheck, then you’ll always be working to earn a paycheck.

On the other hand, if you’re working toward something you’re passionate about, you have the ability to change the world.

Success comes when you love what you do – unless you define “success” as meeting a specific need.

#87.

Success is lousy teacher it seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.

– Bill Gates

It is better to earn success than to have it handed to you.

Immediate success seduces people into thinking they are better than they really are.

It tells them that they can be winners at anything they do.

That’s why hard work and dedication will always be better teachers than success.

#88.

Winston Churchill

There’s nothing wrong with dreaming about success.

Many goals and accomplishments started as a dream, once upon a time.

What you need to do is transition between dreams and reality.

If you want to make your dream come true, then work hard for it.

Dedicate yourself to the journey.

It isn’t always easy and it will not always be fun, but the rewards that come when your dreams come true are worth the effort.

#89.

Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.

– Peter F. Drucker

Without any risk, there will be no reward.

To start a successful business, freelancing opportunity, or even if you accept a new job, there had to be a courageous decision that was made.

It was the decision to leave comfort behind to risk everything.

Not every opportunity will succeed.

Most, in fact, will not.

You’ll never know if your ideas could succeed if you’re unwilling to give them a try in the first place.

#90.

It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.

– Vince Lombardi

J.K. Rowling received rejection letters for her Harry Potter series.

Stephen King received hundreds of rejection letters on his first book.

Instead of giving up because someone didn’t like their work, they kept going.

They believed in themselves even when they got knocked down.

So if you’ve been knocked down, get back up.

Dust yourself off.

Keep moving forward.

#91.

formal education will make you a living

There is no substitute for experience.

You can prepare for the job of a lifetime in the classroom, but until you actually get into that job, it is impossible to know what to expect or how you will react.

This is true for any job in any industry – not just self-employment, start-ups, or gig opportunities.

Until you roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, everything you know is just a theory.

Experience changes that.

#92.

Surround yourself with people who believe in you more than you do in yourself.

– Gaby Natale

When you look in the mirror each morning, what is it that you see?

Do you believe in yourself?

Or do you second-guess your decisions?

We all have moments of self-doubt.

It is in those moments of doubt where reassurance can be a powerful tool.

Others see you in a different light.

You might feel self-doubt because of recent failures, but that’s the small picture.

In the big picture, you might have done incredible things.

Having a core group of people who believe in you and can remind you of the big picture is one of the best assets anyone could ever have.

#93.

Howard Schultz

Risk is in the eye of the beholder.

Some people are unwilling to risk much because they want to stay as safe as possible.

Staying safe can provide you with a comfortable living, but it won’t change the world.

Dream big or go home.

The choice is up to you.

#94.

Losers quit when they’re tired. Winners quit when they’ve won.

We all have bad days.

Then there are the worst days where life chews us up and then spits us out.

It can be very tiring to keep on battling through these tough times.

When you’re stuck in the darkness of fatigue, escape seems to be a viable option.

You could quit, but then you’ll never win.

Keep going even if you’re feeling tired and one day the light of victory will be yours.

#95.

When you know what you want Jim Rohn

At some point in time, your true character comes out as you pursue a dream.

You discover what it is that you truly want in life.

Sometimes it is money.

It could be power.

It might also be spending more time with your family.

Once you discover what it is that you truly want, then you begin to structure your goals so that your definition of success can be achieved.

Just make sure you stick to those goals after you set them.

#96.

Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure.

– Napoleon Hill

We can learn from our mistakes or we can be destroyed by them.

It’s a choice we each can make.

You can keep going or you can quit.

Not only have great people discovered that their greatest success came right after their greatest failure, but those who have quit have gone on to discover that a great success was waiting for them if they’d had the courage to keep going.

So keep going.

You’ve made it this far.

Don’t give up now.

#97.

The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.

– Warren Buffett

You’ll receive a lot of advice as you venture out on your journey toward success.

There will be many distractions along the way.

It is even possible that others might want to join you, copy you, or take your place.

Stand up for yourself and your goals, stay focused, and you’ll be able to reach the levels of success that you want.

#98.

You don't have to be great to start Zig Ziglar

Until you’re willing to take the first step toward a goal, it will remain a dream.

Dreams are nice.

They are comfortable.

They are also just an idea.

You’ve got to move forward in order to turn a dream into reality.

#99.

Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.

– Mandy Hale

Every so often, you’ll find yourself at a crossroads in your journey of life.

Each option available to you seems like it could bring success.

Which way do you go?

Those who embrace growth will choose the path that seems most attractive.

If you’re unwilling to make a decision, then you’ll stay in the uncertainty of that crossroads until you do.

That uncertainty is much more painful than any failure you might experience.

#100.

Walt Disney

Ideas are important, but actions are what will take you toward success.

If all you do is talk about your great ideas, one day you might find that someone took one of them, acted upon it, and achieved the success that could have been yours to have.

#101.

Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.

– Mary Kay Ash

We like to put ideas into boxes.

This allows us to feel like we understand the idea better.

The only problem is that many ideas are bigger than the boxes, so the act of putting an idea into a box naturally limits what we can do with it.

Instead of trying to define everything, allow yourself the luxury of letting an idea evolve on its own.

Get rid of the box and you might just achieve something amazing.

#102.

Albert Einstein

Value is defined as “solving a problem.”

Computers are valuable because they solve communication, networking, and productivity problems.

Frying pans are valuable because they solve the problem of safely cooking food.

Now look at the difficult situation that you might be facing right now.

How could you solve the problem that lies before you?

The answer you find is your opportunity.

#103.

Chase the vision, not the money Tony Hsieh

Money always follows success.

Chase your dreams instead of chasing a paycheck.

When you turn your dreams into reality, your paycheck will naturally grow as well.

#104.

I don’t look to jump over 7-foot bars. I look for 1-foot bars that I can step over.

– Warren Buffet

Instead of trying to solve every problem all at once, it is often necessary to solve small problems one at a time.

It’s easier to walk up a flight of stairs than to try jumping from the first floor to the second floor all on your own.

Each step takes you closer to the goal.

Eventually you’ll reach the top.

When you look back, those who tried to jump all of the steps will likely still be jumping – or they’ll have given up.

So keep moving forward.

#105.

Dale Carnegie

If you don’t have fun when you go to work, then you’re in the wrong job.

Now you might blame a boss, or a policy, or personal circumstances.

That’s all nonsense.

You are in control.

You don’t have to stay.

So go find some place where you can have fun in what you are doing.

Life is too short to be stuck in a job that you hate.

The journey toward success is a difficult one.

It is filled with obstacles, setbacks, and discouragement.

Fear might be around every corner.

Yet if you’re willing to keep your feet moving forward despite these difficulties, you’ll eventually discover something beautiful when you reach the conclusion of your journey.

    Awesome Post Luke!
I think mindset is essential for success; is like a quote is read before:
“You can’t change something you created with the same mind you created it” -Albert E.
I think maybe you can promote some books about mindset and success, just a opinion :).
Thank you for the Post and cool website!

    Luke,

I was pretty down when I came across this article and it helps a lot.The quote that speaks to me the most is number one “You can’t win by playing not to loose”.

I am very self criticising of myself but when looking at this one, it makes me realize that I’m better off because at least I keep moving forward no matter what.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Anh

Yes, don’t stop because if you do you can be sure that you won’t achieve anything. Slowly but surely.

  3. Mike July 20, 2016 at 2:26 am #

Wow, that was long yet beautiful! Bravo! Many of these can either be a huge help in the present(motivating right now) or in the long run(like the chicken and eagles one, I learnt the hard way sometimes as painful as it is we have to avoid some people). We have the power to do anything we want right now, we decide how to live. Bookmarking to take a look when I need it. Thank you!!!

Some great quotes there that can help pick me up when I am feeling down. I am working on a blog website which I hope will become successful in time. Sometimes though I do get stressed with the amount of work that I need to do.

I particularly liked quote 15. I do have a heart in my business as I have chosen a niche that I am passionate about. I feel that this helps. Thank you for this quote. I think I will print it out and whenever I feel down I will look at it and it will make me smile and feel better.
